Tim, aren't temperatures going to get hotter the closer you get to the Mediterranean coast and the further south you go? Another poster mentioned altitude and O2 content, so that's certainly a factor as well. Like Clint Eastwood said, " a man's got to know his limitations." I was concerned about the exertion you put out with the climbing, but it seems the work you put in on the flatter ground of the Netherlands, Germany, and France prior to that point prepared your legs for it. Dealing with the heat and its effects on your heart is another matter altogether. 😁 🌞<--but not too much.

I can identify with the irregular heartbeat, Tim. I have had an A-Flutter ablation and still have A-Fib. They placed a Watchman in my heart to help prevent blood clots. But I got a blood clot on the device! I currently take Metoprolol as my beta blocker... My heart rate rarely rises above the 90s while out riding my Trike during the summer heat. It was a wise health decision to stay out of the mountains and care for your heart. Keep on Triking!

I was going to email a spiel about your heart rate and keeping cool, but you probably know already, anyway, good decision, it's your trip to enjoy. I don't know how high the route goes, but less O2 higher up, would make it worse, glad you enjoyed your fish supper.

Three cheers for the bikeshop. Great job. I fitted a Rohloff to my Greenspeed. A bikeshop in Hobart built the wheel around the Rohloff - but ignored some advice I passed to them. Nett result : the wheel was symmetrical but the Greenspeed actually holds the wheel a little off centre - so the wheel build is (or should be) a little unusual. When I installed the wheel and added the rear mudguard, the mudguard hit the wheel. Don't suppose that's your problem though! We wish you the best weather from now on with the tour.

Big episode! But interesting developments on the tour. I really hope you can make it till Italy but yes I think you'll have to start adapting the times of riding to early morning starts... and maybe a big break in the afternoon somewhere before riding a bit more in the early evening hours... I hope you make it over them mountain tops but I'll keep following regardless!

How great that you happened to get a good bike shop with an English speaker. A big thumbs up to Richie. The downhills look scary, very fast. The relive looked even scarier. That climb was too much. Stay safe Tim, and thanks.

I have strong memories of hearing cicadas whilst growing up in NW Arkansas back in the 60s. No AC, box fan in open window, nothing on but skivvies, sweating profusely, listening to music on my tiny radio next to my ear (fall asleep, 9 volt battery going dead, aaaaaaaah!) So much for the good old days (Sorry, memory trippin' 🫠). Glad Trinny all better! Persevere, huff and puff, chant (I think I can, I think I can....) I'll stay tuned for the next exciting segment! 😮 I'll think about you in the morning as I ride early myself. ¡Siga adelante!

I'm glad you were able to find a cycle shop that was able to replace the cracked rim. It allowed some rejuvenation time as you waited. Wow... That climb looked quite challenging! your new rim should say: Ryde Andra 40 on it, that is the recomended rim from Rohloff (180 kg load)

It would be like starting from the beginning, moving your legs again, all that down time while the wheel gets repaired. Well done on that hill, I was knackered, watching from the recliner.

I was confident you sort it out and you did 😊. New annoying sounds from the rear could be because if the width of the new rim is different from the old one, the tire could have a different shape/profile from before. And it causes it to rub and make new noises. I have encountered this once. Perhaps it is the same for you? I envy you right now. Here I am doing nothing and you are having an amazing adventure. Excellent news about your rim. And yes going uphill on a trike is labourous. But on a positive note your in France making your way to Italy how awesome is that! The ride is warm but not wet.😂 Being positive here!😂

Many moons ago I managed to split my rim, before disc brakes were even on the scene, I guess that's why there are ware indicators. I hope it's easy to find a bike shop, it is important to use the original spokes as they are Rohloff designed for the hub as far as I've been told. How are your new cycling shoes fairing up on your Tour.

Oh no.......😮. I hope you got it sorted so that the adventure can continue. You’ve travelled some miles , so I assume a problem of some sort would present itself , but hopefully all is now well with trinny and the trip continues.

A most unusual disaster, you don't have a rim brake on the back wheel do you, apart from a parking brake. I have had rim failures, because of rim brakes worn the rim..So evidently a fault. You are in a sticky situation ,as sticky as Sticky the stick insect stuck in syrup ! Hopefully there's a bike shop that can rebuild your rear wheel , but with the Rholhoff , hub ,could be sticky. * Just stuck for words !

Oeps, what a cliffhanger to end this vlog. But (spoiler) since you are still on the road, I guess it ended well. Tim, have you any idea how many km (or miles) in total you already have spend on Trinny so far? And how old is she?

A new Maginot Line to dissuade all those bloody tourists, maybe?😂 Here we call those AZ love stones (big f__king rocks!). On my ride this morning I saw many, many Mesquite and Palo Verde trees toppled over by last Sunday's violent storms. 70 and 80 mph winds blew them over, pulling their roots right out of the ground, limbs snapped off, debris from runoff across the trail creating sandy berms 6+ inches deep. What a mess, power poles snapped, 35K without power (some still). Two miles from home the path was blocked by a huge downed Eucalyptus tree (75 to 100 yr old) right along the riverbank. It will take construction equipment to remove it, sad. Our Loop System trails run adjacent to our rivers, which is why I see the damages. The storms cut a swath right through Tucson from SE to NW damaging stuff along the way. A bowling alley two miles to the north had its roof torn off (bowlers inside were not amused, at least no one injured). I've not seen a storm this bad here before.

I've got a bone to pick today my friend. I think you're too polite to do any serious griping, so I'm going to let loose. France, the nation hosting the Tour de France, the world's most prestigious cycling event, should be embarrassed at such an awful stretch of "cycling route." The boulders strewn all over the place looked like a rock fall on a Colorado mountain highway (unfortunately a frequent occurrence here), and that unimproved section appeared to be a singletrack mountain hiking trail instead of something intended for cycling (watching the Relive at the end of the episode, it appeared that you backtracked and went around that strange section...). Also, that suspension bridge with the arch you crossed looked genuinely dangerous! Sorry if I sound like a mother hen here Tim. It's just that I do keep in mind that you're doing this tour solo, and your safety is important to me. Hey, I've been watching your channel for years now. Of course you're a grown man and all, but I do hope you appreciate my concern. We are mortal after all... 🌞😁

For a moment I thought you where in the wrong city. Or was I the only one that thought seeing the Eifeltower on that mountain? About flying the drone. How do you know there is a no fly zone? I never saw any signs of that kind. I can imagine they want to block the road for motorized vehicles, but they could at least have left a small path for pedestrians and cyclists. What could be wrong with that. I hope you enjoyed the pool after a hot and sweaty day. See you in the next one.

I don't mind the noises that much Tim! I like it as it makes me feel like I'm really there for it.. except for feeling the cold wind or rain of course 😅

Pleasant ride in pleasant weather. It looks like leaving Germany was a good move. It your so inspired, you could cycle to Gilbrator snd take a ferry home or depending where you are maybe cycling to a Tour de France stage

Can't wait till I try a recumbent trike as I have a colostomy bag and it is gonna be easier for me to ride rather than a normal bike

Another nice episode. Ashton was watching along with me, and he commented on how nice your "drive by" shots looked. I explained to him how shots like that are actually made, and that they do require a bit of work to pull off (I also told him how drone shots are done). He thought the camera was sort of sitting there by itself, filming people going by 😅... Actually you're doing great with these 30-40 mile stages (they are miles, not kilometers, right?). My body would be screaming at distances like that! The journey continues, and of course I'm with you to the end. 🌞

Tim I'm back to being jealous now that the weather has been nice. Beautiful trails. And not knowing where your going is the fun.
